i still dont get this superstition!! my mom totally freaked on me for cutting my nails after 7pm... WHAT HAPPENS???

It's bad luck to cut your nails after dark. My dad is the same way.

yoooo my moms the same way.. "its not good to cut your nails at night time", "why mom?", "because i said so"

does anyone know why or where this comes from? also, i only know fellow south indians with this strange issue. are you south indian?

apparently, the superstition was created when there wasnt electricity back in the days. ppl managed to cut themselves in the dark. hence the rule of not cutting nails after dark. jai stupid superstitions.

ahah yeah i still dont get it. they dont like me cutting my split ends either

i heard that you're not supposed to cut nails or hair at night because that's when things grow, and its just not good to interrupt the growing phase...which is actually true with some plants (if you cut off a stub and try to grow it, it might die if you cut it at night but would flourish otherwise). thought that was interesting...

#10 no its not a religious thing cuz im Muslim and my mom says the same thing not to cut my hair or nails or even bathe at night my mom said its better to do everything at morning time :)

what about the superstion about cutting nails and hair on tuesdays and fridays?

i think they say you'll have robbery in your house if you cut nails at night

my mom says that too!!! and that you can't cut your hair or throw out shoes and clothes on saturday. whenever i ask why, she says because the gods are eating at night, so the nails fall on their plates or something. i don't get it.

weird, my dad told me not to shower at night and to do it in the morning time, kinda like number 14...

LoL, desi moms and their superstitions... my mom says the same thing, and not to step over people, snap scissors in mid-air, and SO much other stuff..... xD

My dad says its cos its bad luck and that 'the swami doesnt like it". Doesn't stop me from doing it though!
